It is a shame before Almighty God how many of our brave military men and women have been treated after risking life and limb for their country – the United States of America.  Without question, every branch of our military deserves our utmost honor and respect. While our elected officials are quick to publicly salute and applaud our military, the true appreciation deserved is a far cry from reality.

Troubling reports have surfaced recently indicating as many as 1800 Veterans may have been exposed to HIV and Hepatitis at a Veterans Affairs hospital in Missouri due to improper protocols involving the cleaning of dental instruments. It’s a mishap similar to an incident in a Miami VA hospital where approximately 2400 veterans may have been exposed to infectious diseases as the result of improperly cleaned endoscopy equipment. Did we not learn anything from the scandal of neglect and disgrace at Walter Reed Army Medical Center?

Our veterans have earned and deserve lifelong entitlements including access to the best healthcare, support services and retirement benefits available equal to our elected politicians that sit on the Hill discussing war strategy. What’s wrong with this picture?

It is appalling that many of our veterans across this great country have been reduced to panhandling and living on the streets. I challenge you to find any former congressional leaders that are homeless, living under bridges holding signs begging for change.

What will it take for Congress to finally enact meaningful reform in our VA system?
