Fair and Balanced
There appears to be a growing number of political pundits that are of the opinion that President Obama is not fit to be President of the United States. Without shame, the critics have been outright malicious and disrespectful toward this President. The JOES’s have been coming out of the woodwork, with apologies from Joe Wilson with his infamous “You Lie” and Joe Barton with his accusation of an Obama “shakedown” of BP.
Could you imagine the media firestorm that would have erupted if then Senator Obama had publicly admonished George Bush before a joint session of Congress because of his disapproval of the Iraq war? Somehow I think that an apology would not have sufficed and all would not have been forgiven and forgotten.
In fairness, it’s sometimes difficult to determine if fellow Democrats are friend or foe. It’s amazing that a party in the majority can’t seem to unify with constant infighting between splinter groups consisting of progressives, liberals, and blue dogs.
Despite lukewarm support from his own party in conjunction with the Republican Party of NO, President Obama deserves credit for his leadership and guidance through one of the most difficult economic times in this nation. This administration has tackled Wall Street, health care reform and expanded hate crime legislation just to name a few, all while winding down the Iraq war and managing an offensive front in Afghanistan and overseeing the largest of oil spills in history.
I believe that our current state of divisiveness is due in part to the distortion of the facts by the right wing media outlets. Since there are those that are hell bent on wanting the President to fail and the media’s lack of any semblance of “fair and balanced” reporting – it has become long overdue for those of us that can discern fact from fiction to support this President.
If we are not willing to get behind him and this administration, I say we don’t deserve this President – President Barack Obama.

I think that there is a big difference in disrespect and criticism. There was no greater criticized president than George W. Bush. Many of you who trashed Bush are now crying"foul" that the shoe is on the other foot.Go back and reflect on the commntaries of Oberman, Matthews and Maddow.Criticism or disrespect? Fair and Balanced? C'mon Tanya! You are preaching from your bully pulpit to your ultra liberal peanut gallery!

BTW,Fox News is not the enemy. It is much clearer than the rose colored glasses of progressives(LIBERALS)

The Main stream media does not fairly report anything when it comes to politics. They are so far in Obama's corner that they don't even know what the other side to the story is, much less on how to report on it.
Fox News is not the saving grace of the media market, but they certainly do report on a much more fair and balanced platform than the main stream media.
I think it's time that all media news agencies need to keep their opinions out of the reporting and simply report the facts. It is up to us to form our own opinions on the untwisted facts.
Oh yeah - lets do away with the pre-scripted Presidential press conference question/answer sessions while we are at it!

We were all asked and for the most part supported President Bush after the 9/11 attacks.Politics were put aside and their was unity. It was almost considered treason to voice any opposition to Bush and the subsequent war.Why can't we do the same in this crisis. The elephant in the room that no one wants to acknowledge is that our President is now BLACK! I said it!Racism!

Cyn,
You are so far in your own world you cannot see straight.
I am proud that this country has finally elected a Black president. And, by the way, I am white!
Unfortunately, black, white, whatever, he is not doing his job!
I do not know where you reside at, so you may know anything about Virginia, but I voted for Doug Wilder in the Governor race in Virginia way back when. I didn't look at whether he was black or white, I looked at what he stood for and I felt he was the right man for the job.
The problem with today's politics is simple: the majority of politicians are out only for themselves. We need to institute term limits, do away with the special concessions that our Congressional members receive (FOR LIFE!) and get our country back to what is is suppose to be: a place where the individual can acheive anything he wants!
The U.S. is always referred to as "the land of opportunity". Not the "land of free handouts, and you only have to work when you want to, and if you loose out on a risky investment or run a business in an unsound manner and loose out, we'll pay you back from the tax dollars of those that did not over extend themselves or act foolishly on risky investments"

Tanya,I am a regular reader, but have never posted until today? What planet is Biz and Howie from? They always start with I have voted for Blacks or I have "a" Black friend. So I couldn't be racist?Yeah Right!

I love this forum. Many fail to realize that this will never be a colorblind society and never should be.It is sometimes hard to separate partisan politics from racist propaganda, but not when it is up close and personal.Much of the disrepect, especially from members of congress on both sides of the aisle unfortunately point to the latter.

What's clear is that the media has taken on a more biased view from both sides. The public seems to welcome this. I would prefer unbaised viewpoints, but I'm okay with the biased viewpoints. I read an equal number of Conservative and Progressive media sources. My only requirement is that the viewpoint reflects reality. Fox News does not reflect reality. If we listened to those idiots, we would have simply cut taxes and suspend mark-to-market accounting as the way out of one of the biggest economic meltdowns since the Great Depression. Shoot, we would actually have another Depression if we listened to Fox News...

I wouldn't get too overly exercised by those who seem to be actively working against this president.
Personally, I wish these type stories to not contribute to the "teabag hysteria" because rather than show that we are not to be trifled with, (with a capital "F") it tends to show us as being moved in the direction they want us to move as a result of fear.
But that's me.
All go through this and this president will be no different. Setting aside the added disinterest in his race from both old world democrats from the days of "early" Sen. Robert Byrd that harbor the racial animus of the past (and they are many) and white republicans who built their party on "racial purity" today, President Obama will have his mettle tested, period.
I liken his first term to that of a substitute teacher taking over one of the most unruly classes in a school most teachers rather not be assigned. He will try to compromise, befriend and be understanding until he is either run off OR he becomes "Crazy Joe" from Patterson High in Patterson, New Jersey. "Lean On Me"
Look, if not for President Bush Jr putting fear in all Americans with the WTC plot, (yes I'm one with unanswered questions on WTC), how long would that fool would have lasted left to his own devices explaining this economic mess?
President Obama is getting things done and we will need to stand with him.
Giving a play by play account on how wingnuts move us to me is counter-productive.
Change is hard. So let’s get about the business of doing the work that needs doing and writing the columns that need writing to immunize (teach) our party how to respond and what to respond to.
They do.
You think Sarah Palin and Glen Beck is a fluke? Check the level of respect they receive from CNN today and see if I'm wrong. BTW, CNN is that old world democrat I talked about and they introduced us to Glen Beck. Ok, I'm done. Coffee is ready.
