She's Right! Living off the government is no way to live. I used to myself. All you bruthas know that most of us can easily work fo da man, but, why bother when we get paid fo free? The only way we can become strong is to raise ourselves up! Don't depend on the other man (The government) otherwise, we be slaves again, just don't know it yet.

Sharron Angle kept saying that jobs exist but at the entry-level...as if the only people affected by this recession are folks at the middle manager levels and higher. The facts show that the current recession has given birth to a new wave of people living below or close to the poverty line.

That doesn't sound like a bunch of people with a disincentive to work or a willingness to trade down from foie gras to jelly sandwiches.

There are enough historical cases in economics which prove how fiscal austerity during a recession only makes the recession worse. Heck, Ronald Reagan's team knew that, which is why they supported deficit spending during the early 80's recession. Much to the consternation of Democrats, I must add...

Private sector either does not have the money or the confidence to hire people. Citizens lack the money or the confidence to spend. Cutting unemployment benefits to give citizens fewer reasons to visit their neighborhood grocer does not help the grocer or other local businesses one bit.

Bottom line: the government should extend jobless benefits while providing new incentives for business investment, industry incubation and job creation. These are not diametrically-opposed options...
