The Unemployed?

Utah Senator Orrin Hatch recently proposed legislation that would require people receiving unemployment benefits to be tested for drug use.

What do you think?  Should those seeking unemployment benefits be subjected to drug testing?

I think restrictions and requirements are necessary. Those willing to accept public dollars should have no problem with drug testing.it is a condition of my employment in the private sector.

Big Brother raising his ugly head again. How about drug testing as a requirement for a driver's license?Bus pass? How far will this go?

We are going to spend more unemployment tax dollars while cutting off unemployment benefits to taxpayers. SMH

"A lot of people are saying, 'Hey, it's about time. Why do we keep giving money to people who are going to go use it on drugs instead of their families?'" Hatch said.

The goal, he said, is to get users into treatment.

This is some pure unadulterated bullsh*t!

Why is it that unemployment is now associated with drugs and laziness?

7. Sherman said...

Yes.Only drug users should have a problem with this.Unemployment benefits are a privilege, not a right.

Did the country look down on the unemployed after the Great Depression?Did we accuse them of being drunks and addicts? This neo-conservative crap is driving me crazy.

What is most amazing is the fact that Utah voters have "enthusiastically"backed this stupid ass proposal.Nothing like kicking someone when they are down.

Why would anyone have a problem with putting restrictions on tax dollars to ensure that the recipients are at least drug free and ready for the workplace prior to recieving compensation.

17. BillBo said...

Yes they should be tested. I have to work for my check and I have to be tested.

I guess the whole country will be tested after they legalize drugs. Get use to it even if you do work in the private sector.

Drug screens for truckers average over 100 dollars.A screen for everyone receiving benefits is a colossal waste of taxpayer dollars.Would they test once or monthly. This is crazy.

Where do ya'll think this money is comin from? When we go buy cigarettes, MD2020, Gas and so forth, the price goes up so we can cover these entitlements. Raise up America! Get a job or make a job fo yourself! You CAN do it! I have! YES WE CAN!!! We don't need da other man (the government).

If there should be drug testing, let's start with Congress. Senator Hatch is proposing a reckless expansion of government authority into the lives of people who are collecting benefits that they've earned as a result of their previous work. But it's easy to make suggestions like that when are a multi-millionaire with a guaranteed pension.

Why not stop the drugs from coming into this country? The drug addicts will find a way to get drugs even if they have to rob, steal, and kill.
