Bypassing BP?

There has been a lot of discussion surrounding the viability of a boycott of British Petroleum.

How do you feel about a boycott of BP?

They are too big and the progressives are not organized.

How can shutting BP down help those affected by the spill? A bankrupt BP is not the answer.

I don't think boycotts work in these days and times. It may be a feelgood measure, because we want to just "DO SOMETHING".Large corporations are so intertwined that is hard to target just one entity. This is BP Global.

I have already started my boycott for what it worth.

Many of the retail outlets (gas stations) are not structurally connected to BP. Therefore, boycotting the gas stations will likely not succeed. BP will respond by simply selling "white label" gas to no-name brands across the globe.

Forcing divestitures might be an angle...

I actually agree with Baye.Until the forcing divestiture part.LOL

Unfortunately not.

You may be able to bypass a BP station, but you can't bypass BP.

I will be bypassing BP!

A boycott will only hurt the victims at this point.

I have a problem with all of these too big to fail and too big to touch global corporations

I will never buy BP. Exxon did not display the arrogance and disregard for the community like BP

It won't work.But I wish it could.

We NEED BP to remain financially sound in order to pay all of the claims and help those suffering on the Gulf Coast. Yes, BP is responsible. Yes, BP should be held accountable. But -- if BP goes under, who will be left to foot the bill? The American Taxpayer, that's who. We can not afford to "kill the golden goose."

I need gas to drive to work. A boycott is not going to stop that leak.

Not a good idea!

If BP was a local business doing wrong, a boycott would be very effective. However, BP is an international company. If the U.S. boycotted BP, it would only hurt the people already suffering from the oil spill. Do we really believe that a boycott would take one dime out of a CEO's pocket?

18. Dante said...

Susan nailed it. A boycott is the last thing we should do.

The people here saying you will Boycott BP, I'm wondering how u would do that. Us, u never buy anything from them. So if u aré thinking of boycotting local Gas Stations u probably hate your neighbor. Even if we could efficintly boycott them. they would suffer for a short term if any. Until they adjust there sales ( they will just sale shit to China) .

So many people have said that a boycott is not viable.Okay, what is? What avenues do we have to stop these corporations from business as usual?

Don't waste your time boycotting BP, they can sell their gas to any station without your knowledge.
All those generic brands out here are made by the big name brand firms. Heads you lose tails you lose.
