The struggle continues

Economic sanctions are beginning to take shape in opposition to the controversial immigration bill in Arizona. The law is considered discriminatory or as some would call it, “racial profiling” legislation. More than eighteen labor and civil rights organizations have joined forces urging corporations and organizations across the country to refrain from transacting business and holding conventions in Arizona.

Boycotts are nothing new to Arizona. The state resisted the Martin Luther King Holiday signed into law by President Reagan in 1983. Significant boycotts led in part by Coretta Scott King, including the NFL Players Association decision to move Super Bowl XXVII from Arizona to California resulted in the loss of millions of tourism dollars, eventually leading to the passage of the King Holiday in Arizona in 1992.

It appears that Arizona’s unfavorable track record when it comes to people of color continues.  Remember ASU refusing to award President Obama an honorary degree? Now there is news that Arizona Governor Jan Brewer just signed a bill targeting ethnic studies.

I think I’ll be bypassing Arizona.

How will ethnic studies increase chauvinism? This is nothing but pure racism.

As you know I supported the immigration bill due to the lack of any federal legislation to curb illegals and their subsequent violence and crime, but in a such a diverse state depending on tourism dollars, this may be the nail in the economic coffin of Arizona. This is stupid.
