Do you swear...
Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you GOD? Unfortunately, these words seem to lose their meaning in many instances outside of the courtroom.
On April 15th, the filing deadline for American taxpayers, the Tea Party chose to spend the day protesting taxes and rallying against the Obama administration that has, (for the record) REDUCED the tax burden for the majority of taxpayers. This same administration has been forced to address the effects of eight years of a downward economic spiral inherited from a Bush administration that engaged the country in war that has cost thousands of precious lives and millions of dollars under the false pretense of “weapons of mass destruction.” It is amazing how those who voted not once, but twice for George W. Bush are now protesting a deficit inherited from the failed policies of his administration, and behaving as though those eight years didn’t happen.
Let’s tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth – So help our country!

Obama did not reduce taxes for the majority of tax payers, which, incidentally, is about 50% of the population. Bush overspent, but Obama has lost ALL control over spending and tripled the deficit he "inherited". If you are going to harp on the truth, then please speak it first yourself.

Jasper, again, that is a lie. Only 50% of americans PAY taxes so how then can 95% get a tax cut. And besides that, Obama is planning on letting the Bush tax CUTS expire which will mean a tax increase for most americans that PAY taxes.

I've seen no economic data which says that Americans pay more taxes in 2010 than they paid in 2008.
I would like for anyone in possession of any data which says that more working Americans pay more taxes today than they did in 2009/2010 to share it with me. I'm not particularly interested in opinions at this point; I want facts that are supported with sources beyond a Glenn Beck editorial. Lots of tax data exists, but none of it will support the idea that Americans pay more taxes.
Having an opinion about a vast government conspiracy is fine when you want to swap fish stories with your mates at the local bar, but the real world says that opinions are meaningless without facts...

Baye - Who said anything about relative tax rates between '08 and '10. That is currently not the debate.

Danny,Tanya's post said 95% of taxpayers, not Americans. How can you reduce the taxes of non taxpayers.Stop distorting the facts!

The truth is,the main promise that Obama has failed to keep so far is Gitmo.Baggers can't complain because they want it open.Taxes ,health care, economy,so far so good. Now ,lets focus on the jobs and financial reform.16 months, not bad.

Danny - Americans are paying less taxes today than they paid in 2008. That appears to be the point of the blog post.
If you disagree, great. Just let me see what facts you have to back up your point...

Baye - The marginal tax rates are unchanged. How can tax payers be paying less? Do you disagree that Obama is going to let the Bush tax cuts expire so that taxpayers will be paying more under him? Do you think Obama and the dems are NOT goning to pass a VAT on all Americans? Do you think Obama will 1)reduce spending
or 2)raise taxes to handle HIS runaway deficit?
DD - Your just restated and made my point.
Why do you people have to malign and use childish name calling on anyone you disagree with?

Danny – The numbers show that the economy collapsed, the resulting unemployment increase put a hit on the tax revenues, and the government spent additional money in the form of a stimulus package to save the economy from a recession. By the way, about 1/3 of the $787B stimulus package passed last year included tax cuts to businesses and individuals. Therefore, Americans effectively pay less taxes.
I can't address your speculations about what you think America’s tax future may bring without a set of facts to discuss.
Let’s discuss facts. This picture tells the story about President Obama’s spending:
http://cbo.gov/ftpdocs/89xx/doc8917/Chapter1.5.1.shtml#1070080
The biggest deficit drivers are clearly Medicare and Medicaid expenses. These expenses were baked before the 2008 elections. President Obama should be credited with being one of the few leaders in recent memory who had the courage to address the rise in Medicare/Medicaid spending.
My understanding of the current deficit picture comes from looking at the Budget Outlook report from 2008: http://cbo.gov/ftpdocs/89xx/doc8917/toc.htm
And from August of 2009: http://cbo.gov/ftpdocs/105xx/doc10521/08-25-BudgetUpdate.pdf
More than half of the budget deficit is driven by lower tax revenues caused by the recession. *Inclusive of the $787B stimulus package*, President Obama’s incremental spending represents about 16% of the deficit snapshot. The remaining amounts include items already baked in such as net interest payments. If you want to get more precise about it, you can make the argument that Obama’s spending accounted for a relatively small portion of the interest expense.
Once again, Danny – please share your facts with me…
