Fact or Fiction

It’s becoming extremely difficult to distinguish between news, infotainment and pure entertainment. Now that Tiger Woods is back on the green, you would think that the media’s obsession with Tiger’s personal saga would be over, but no, the evening newscasts covered the Master’s Tournament with the zeal of ESPN. There is something gravely wrong when the media indulges us with news that we can’t use opposed to in depth accounts of critical issues that should be front and center, warranting more than just a casual or courtesy mention.

At the other end of the spectrum is conservative talk /entertainment radio, a forum perpetrating as legitimate news that capitalizes on political rhetoric, innuendo and in some cases outright lies. With millions of viewers and listeners that seem unable to discern fact from fiction- this can be toxic.

There is growing political tension in the air that’s dividing the country. Unfortunately, it won’t attract the level of mainstream media attention as that of Tiger Woods, while conservative talk entertainment outlets continue to do what they do best – misinform and mislead.

These people understand. They gravitate towards what feels good. They elevate themselves by hating others. The followers are so afraid that others will succeed that they sacfrifice their own well being.

R U throwing Tiger under the bus?Tiger was only a distraction from the failed policies of this President. The liberal nightly news broadcasts are guilty of not focusing on how this country is going down the tubes while painting members of the Tea Party as idiots. November is a round the corner

My question is why we need another liberal commentator on the radio. You complain about the right. How are your ratings compared to Limbaugh and Hannity?I am sure this will never be posted.

Hey Tanya, the article title says it all:"Fact or Fiction!"So many people digest fiction easier than fact. Thus, why complicate the "news" with truth when nobody cares to hear it!Sorry!America does not think!!

Becky - I would say that the media would have still gone bonkers over Tiger Woods's transgressions if they occurred at any point between 2000 and 2010. I don’t think the President has anything to do with it. Blame it on demographic changes regarding what is widely perceived as entertainment. I don’t see a logical connection between Tiger and Obama or Tiger and Bush.

With regard to policies, let’s pick on the economy. I am not the biggest fan of what Obama has done, but the Conservatives’ had no plan other than more tax cuts. Even Conservative economists had to laugh at the idea that tax cuts would have prevented financial Armageddon from happening. BTW, the tax cuts offered by G. W. Bush during the run-up to the financial crash did not prevent the crash from happening, correct. And for some reason, people still think we can tax-cut our way out of this? We would have experienced a *depression* if we followed that advice. BTW, tax cuts represent government spending, except through the back door…

The solution is not cut and dry. In other words, a strictly Liberal solution will not work and a strictly conservative solution will not work. I know this is hard for many folks to do, but we need to see the solution as “gray” instead of “black” or “white.”

Speaking of conservative entertainment, even Glenn Beck admits that he’s more about entertainment than politics.

Shocking? Well, not to me. Read the article in conservative-leaning business magazine Forbes about Beck’s admission: http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2010/0426/entertainment-fox-news-simon-schuster-glenn-beck-inc.html

@Cyn - and that's the awful part. It's a problem. Even Mad Magazine is more educational than Beck and Limbaugh...
