Game changer?
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell recently acknowledged that the omission of slavery from his proclamation declaring Confederate History Month was a mistake.
Does his amendment to include slavery give credence to the celebration of the Confederacy?

Nothing short of rescinding the proclamation would be acceptable.

The confederacy should be studied, reflected upon and remembered for what it was.An effort to maintain slavery.A proclamation and observance is inappropriate.

I don't understand why the apology is not enough.History is history.Slavery happened. We are bombarded with "Roots" and the like each year. I am sensitive to the history but not as hypersensitive as many on this site

You got to be Kidding me. We have resorted back to this kind of stuff again.
This is nonsense. It was a part of history. However, those who were part of this confederacy better watch out. It's a new era and Slavery is no longer tolerated or accepted. A new breed of people have emerged. If you have kept up with the statistics lately. The tables have turned and now the mexicans are the majority and caucasians are becoming the minority.
History has changed. Old things are the past and new things are becoming the focus now.
Let's move on and get over it. Until, Politicians get it thru their heads that Racism is not the prioty and health care, taxes, well being of the American people is, than they might be doing their jobs for once in their lives. Otherwise, Politician are a big waste of time and energy, and you should give up your seat, so someone can do the job we elected them to do.

I don't how we can justify honoring the defenders of Virginia against the United States. They would be defined as terrorists today(if they were Islamic)

This is only a sympton of the insensitivity and overt disregard not only for people of color and all Americans.

Thanks for todays commentary. Now concerning our govenors statement, I agree with Amy and Raymond J. We know the reasoning for the Civil War, let's move on, and concentrate our energy on educating our children.

I guess we need National Remember Hitler Month also. They can have a taste of how it feels, because the Holocaust was just a taste of what slavery was. We don't even have a clue, how many people were lost, during slavery!
