Help

Last week, Haiti was hit by a devastating earthquake that nearly wiped the country off the face of the earth. Countless men, women and children were crushed by collapsed structures while others were trapped to their death unable to be pulled out of the rubble.   Considered one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere, reports indicate, the  country of more than nine million inhabitants is in a state of disarray with the loss of homes, hospitals and government structures.

Haiti is no stranger to strife and turmoil. It was the first independent nation in Latin America, the first post colonial independent black led nation in the world and the only nation whose independence was gained as part of a successful slave revolution.

It is unfortunate that with hundreds of thousands dead, and the world trying to maneuver through the logistical nightmare of delivering aid, the usual suspects including Robertson and Limbaugh continue the barrage of insensitive comments and criticism. The much needed U. S. and global relief efforts will be needed for not months but years to come. We can not allow the crisis to be lost in the ever changing media news cycles. Be advised and aware this incident will also attract the ever present scam artists that prey on the good intentions of those seeking a way to assist. Check out the charity to make sure your donation reach those in need.

The Haitian people are a resilient people. May we continue to offer our prayers, support and well wishes to them at this most unfortunate and defining period of history.
