Take action!

We just celebrated the birthday of Dr. King and it's obvious that we have a long way to go in race relations, with racially insensitive comments coming from both the right and left.

What actions do you think should be taken in an effort to improve race relations and unite our country?

It starts with an honest and frank discussion

I am sick of talking.Whites and Blacks talk about each other and will never talk with one another.Racism is and will be alive and well.

Sick of forums.Sick of a President that will not force the issue on the table.

Why don't we start with the requirement that any company that recieves bailout funds is required to have a diversity plan and an affirmative action program in place? prior to receiving funds

We are not even frank and honest with each other. We need to deal with our own issues of class and skin tone before we bring anyone else into the conversation

I think it may be as good as its going to get.Just being honest. The media protrays it as a colorblind society while we have to listen to excuses of free speech from ignorant bigots like Rush Limbaugh and those folk at Fox.

I agree with Kyle.We need to do some housekeeping.Just because the civil rights movement forced whites to accept Black money at their hotels and restaurants, the Black businesses are no longer good enough for some of us.If we continue to look at ourselves as second class citizens, why in the hell should we expect others to see us differently?

Tanya, the answer is in more people like you encouraging, prompting and allowing discourse. The ability to be honest in our assessment of where we are will go along way.I watched some of the MSNB special and felt that the most outspoken proponent of change was the host,Chris Mathews. We have to learn to be Pro-Black without being Anti-White.

We have to gain a knowledge of ourselves as black people. Be proud of who we are. Know that when we change the world will change. Do not be afraid to make it known who we are, and who our enemy is.

We can no longer wait for others to validate our existence and equality.

The conversation should start in our religious communities. I don't mean pairing Christians with Christians ,but multi-faith and multi -ethnic regular gatherings to talk about not only about differences but commonalities. We are even more segregated by faith than race.
