Matrimony

New Hampshire became the fifth state in the U.S. to allow same sex marriage with the District of Columbia expected to be next.

Do you believe marriage is a civil right for gays and lesbians?

I believe society struggles with issues between civil and moral rights. There is a difference between the two. The Constitution protects humanity with the eloquent verbiage that “All men are created equal.” I find myself sometimes wondering why God creation hasn’t stood up to this passage of doctrine, to include women. The Mosaic Law states that a man should rule his household but it doesn’t states the woman is any lesser a person than her counterpart. I think we struggle with this issue because as believers in Christ a woman leaves her family and cleaves to her husband. Civil rights allow people the right under a protected class to be with who I want to be with. Now the questions becomes, who is right? That’s a question for God to answer! I don’t believe God dislike his creation any lesser based on our sexual preferences but I do believe He will judge us on our motives and behavior according to his law. I’m a hard core Democrat but differ with them on this issue and support the right. Tanya, I pray God blessing for you this year and all your readers.

As far as a civil right I don't quite think so. Although the argument trends like that only because it has no other direction. If this is the case why not marry your dog, cat, turtle or what ever. I like trees so I should have the right to marry my tree after watering it for so many years. Hold on a minute while I check the man boy love web site and see what thier position is. Silly me, never mind, I think I already know. One year I was reading a document called the bible and it indicated God would wipe you out if you if you lay with the same sex. Although I've never seen that happen yet on Sunday I heard God is coming in glory to judge the living and the dead. Moral or not my problem is making sure I'm right not what your doing.

if a man wants to marry a man let him do it. and the same for a woman. There is a separation of church and state so you can't bring your faith into this argument. Just because you believe in something does not mean someone else does. If you don't believe in gay marriage then don't marry someone the same sex as you but don't try to dictate other people's lives based on your perception of right and wrong.

Greetings Jon,
I don’t take sides in these types of debates. I find that humans become passionate about issues that mostly affect them which leads us to move in that direction. I try to look at both sides of the issue before forming a rational conclusion but for me personally, I believe in one man one woman. I can’t judge a person based on what he/she thinks but I can offer my prayers. Hope this helps.

YES, YES, YES… I guess that still counts as one vote.
As a Christian, I’m tired of other “Bible toting Christians” trying to ram the Bible down our throats as to what is right and wrong. Those Christians who love to use that “lay with a man” scripture forgets about the scripture regarding shell fish and other unclean animals. That same chapter of Leviticus also talks about putting death those that commit adultery or curses their parents. Or did you forget about the scripture of not judging others? Jesus came to save the world, not condemn the world. He taught love for ALL your neighbors and that does not stop at the house next to you. Sin is sin, we all sin and no one sin is worse than the other.

I'll never understand the opposition. How would this effect others peoples marriage in any way? This is a Human Rights issue and all these "so called religious people" sitting in judgement do not have the right to restrict someone elses Human Rights based on their religious beliefs...PERIOD! This is a no-brainer and I don't get why it's an issue

I agree with Harry about why are we so concern about who marries who. In the end, they will have to answer to our maker not us. Let them live their lives and we live ours. We always hear people say I have gay friends, but yet we want to sit here and judge how they live their lives. So call straight people are out their during much worse things than the so call sin of being gay. GOD will take care of everyone that didn't live their life right on earth when he is ready. If you are talking to your children as you suppose to as a parent you don't have to worry about what Susan and John are doing in their house. I wouldn't want my kids to live that life but if that is the choice they take in life I will be there for them because they are mine not how they choose live their life. Their are too many so called christains out there turning their backs on love ones because they are not living the life style they want and are worried about being embarrassed and caring what others say. People are going to talk whether you are doing good or bad, so stop throwing family to the side for worrying about what others are going to say.

Yes, homosexual or what ever a person may be any one should be able to be legal recognized as a couple but, I personal believe that the title of marriage should be reserved for a man and a woman. This does not mean they can not couple but they should not call it marriage but something else, equally legal yet different in name or title.

35. Ray said...

What example are we showing our children! NO IT IS NOT A RIGHT!!!!

36. tracy said...

I don't think that it's a civil right issue. And I wish that they would stop presenting gay marriage is a civil right issue. It's choice whether you marry a man or a woman. How do you get civil rights from that. I believe that marriage is meant for a man and woman, not man and man, or woman and woman. But at the end of day if it's what they choose. BUT IT'S NOT A CIVIL RIGHT ISSUE.

Putting personal & religious dogma aside, why are heterosexual folks obsessed with same sex relationships/marriage? I imagine after archaic man-made religion fails to mentally subjugate others into a life they will not be faithful to then discriminatory laws will do? Religion will Never subjugate sexuality! Religion encouraged demeaning bias towards people of color, females, LGBT, and classicism. Homosexuality & same sex marriage will never be the downfall of any society; that eventuality is due to unjust bias & ignorance. My question of the day..Why would any heterosexual want to Force a LGBT person to live a life full of deceipt by marrying the opposite sex? Every community needs to self evaluate; the African American community is not enriched by embracing homophobic tactics; that only drives your brothers/sisters away from the community. The community can not afford to lose these valuable citizens. If the African American community will forgive sex outside of marriage, the thousands of kids born outside of wedlock, lawbreakers who've been incarcerated, etc.,then why not embrace the LGBT members of the community?

38. Mitchell said...

No!!! In Roman’s 1: 26-27, God said that homosexuality is unnatural. “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections; for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature; and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.”

The United States is no longer a Christian country and is reaping what it sows. Example, several states have already implemented same sex marriage, the Ten Commandments can no longer be viewed in a court room or any government facility, mangers can no longer be viewed unless it is on private property, the Democratic Party reversed funding abortion again which was previously ceased by the Bush administration, and course prayer in the schools was discontinued in 1962. The wicked ACLU is ready to immediately enforce these laws.
When a country or anyone disobeys God, God sends his destruction. This is the reason that the United States is no longer a prosperous country. We are reaping what we sow. Galatians 6:7, “Be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Do not forget that thousands of years ago, our Egyptian black kings and queens in Africa enslaved and oppressed Israel. Thousands of years later, God allowed our black people to be enslaved and oppressed.

First of all God don't compromise his word. In my opinion I believe what our city Council Members fail to realize is they were voted in by the people and they will be voted out by the people.1 Corinthians7:2 In closing I don't agree with Same sex marriage.I believe the city Council and them that see nothing wrong with same sex marriage has put a curse on themselves.

Very glad to see the majority of respondents approve marriage equality in DC. Trudi, Harper, Rod, Mitchell and Paul T, marriage is a man-made institution and legalized by secular law. How you see moral versus secular is based on your own human interpretation of divine books. Have your opposite sex weddings in your religious institutions. Let those who seek equality in marriage wed in the courts or those religious institutions that will perform their ceremony. Let all who wed obtain the same governmental benefits. John, your comment reveals your the lack of clear thinking and letting your emotions control your mouth--we're talking about two human beings. I've seen in magazines where people wed their dogs to other dogs, is that illegal? Keep to the species and stop letting your imagination run wild. When you realize how the tyranny of the majority kept us enslaved, you can see how the belief slavery was moral was wrong. You can text proof anything to support your biases.

NO, Homosexual of today is a human conscience choice that they made to be who they are. It is not a gene problem. God did not make an error/mistake or whatever, GOD IS Perfect. He gave you as an individual freedom of choice. Ex: the ability to choice right from wrong, to go left or right, to be rich or poor. A person has a free right to choice what they want to be. 1. When God stated in the bible, be fruitful and multiply, how can two women or two men make a baby? 2. Look a Leviticus 18:22 this should be loud and clear. No where in the bible did GOD say it was OK, Again Gays and Lesbian is a Lifestyle, not a destinctive race, color, or creed. Ex: Man, Women is a Gender. Riddle me this how does Gay & Lesbians qualify as a Gender? Wouldn't this be classified as a Class of people and not a Gender? People please get a clue here. Let's get REAL PEOPLE!!!!!!
