Should Food Stamp recipients be prohibited from buying soda and candy?

The Commissioner of the Department of Health and Human Services in Maine wants to ban the use of food stamps for the purchase of soda and candy. Reportedly, “Too many tax dollars are being wasted on candy and soda instead of nutritional foods” which some argue is a contributing factor to obesity.

What’s your take? Should Food Stamp recipients be prohibited from buying soda and candy?
