What's Your Take?

Democratic lawmakers staged a dramatic sit in and protest on the House floor for more than 25 hours, while pledging to continue to find ways to pressure Republicans to hold votes on gun-control measures. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan characterized the sit in as “a publicity stunt and now a fund-raising scheme.”

What’s Your Take? Will the historic protest change the way Congress operates or was this simply grand political theatre?

I hope that this will change but not hopeful as long as Republicans control both houses

Campaign political theatre.Wonderful tribute on the radio Friday by Mr Brown and Bradley and Mr.Free.You are a woman of conviction and have and continue to support WCLM and Black businesses.I was brought to tears hearing how even with your syndication, you still recognize WCLM as your home station.Peace and blessings to you and Mr.Free

While the sit in was obviously highly choreographed,it sent a message to the Republicans that the Democrats are not playing by the rules. This was designed to energize the base and the electorate in November.

Shameless political theater and yes, they were fundraising off it for the Democrats.

Mainstream media has moved on.Thank you for keeping this in the limelight. The conversation surrounding common sense gun control needs to stay in the forefront even when CNN moves on to the next bright and shiny news story and 24 hour coverage of Donald Dump

It's like on-court fights pro basketball.

For the most part, no one's trying to connect to the jaw. The price for that is too steep. But no one wants to look soft either.

Therefore, they throw joints.

Democrats "occupied" (laughing) the chamber that's already been rented out by Big Money.

In other words, Democrats were throwing joints. Tryin' to show the folks back home how the suits on the Hill are doin' sumpn, when nuthin's being done.

Now you know why I call them the Party of No Guts ...

song currently stuck in my head: "nouveau swing" - donald harrison

It was theater, but much better than the Trump channel.Tanya, can you explain Brexit?

17. Jesse said...

Good question,Tempest. It seems as though a lot of people voted for it and didnt understand, now they want to reverse it.The same racist stuff that Trump is doing and the fear of anyone that's not White has caused this isolationist view.We better pay attention

Nothing to it

Brexit is a shorthand way of saying the UK leaving the EU - merging the words Britain and exit to get Brexit, in a same way as a Greek exit from the EU was dubbed Grexit in the past.
What happens now?

For the UK to leave the EU it has to invoke an agreement called Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.

Cameron or his successor needs to decide when to invoke this - that will then set in motion the formal legal process of withdrawing from the EU, and give the UK two years to negotiate its withdrawal.
