Should The Atlanta Educators Face Prison Time?

What does it mean to be a teacher? Perhaps it’s easier to define what a teacher is not… the 11 Atlanta teachers recently convicted of standardized test-cheating. Investigators said the teachers held cheating parties where incorrect answers on student tested were erased changed and corrected. All but one of 12 defendants charged with racketeering and other crimes in the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal were convicted last Wednesday. Some teachers were told to make changes to student answers on tests. The investigation revealed that educators cheated out of pride, to earn bonuses, to enhance their careers or to keep their jobs. The educators could face up to two decades in jail.

What's Your Take? Should these educators face prison time?

Racketeering seems crazy. Some of them only did it to save their jobs. The news makes it seem as though they all got bonuses. They were corrupt pawns in a corrupt system.

This case was blown out of proportion. Teachers facing 20 years and Wall St execs still on the job making millions. This was a waste of tax dollars

Don't want to play the race card, but c'mon. If this was not Atlanta and the teachers not Black, you would have never heard about this story.

Tanya,I remember you talking about this a couple of years ago. They should lose jobs and pension but not prison. This was politically driven. When are they going to look at how standardized testing has hurt our schools and children

They should lose their license to teach.Prison is crazy. How about making the pay back to the community with public service and probation

I believe their hearts were in the right place. I do not think they knew they were committing racketeering. None of these people had any priors, there is no victory here,
