Giuliani and Race

Former NY Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has been described by some as being desperate to remain relevant, dominated theairwaves after his assertions that President Obama does not love America. He said “I do not believe, and I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the president loves America,”“He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up, through love of this country.”Critics suggested that Giuliani’s description of the President upbringing reflected a prejudiced view that Mr. Obama was different from other Americans.  Giuliani defended his assertion that President Obama did not love America, and said that his criticism of Mr. Obama’s upbringing should not be considered racist because the President was raised by “a white mother.”

What’s your take?  Giuliani claims the comments were not racist. How would you describe the comments and what do you think was the motivation?

He is appealing to the tea party bigots.

His motivation is to get attention.

The former New York City mayor took to The Wall Street Journal opinion pages Sunday night seeking to move beyond the firestorm over his comments, saying his problem is really with Obama's policies.

"My blunt language suggesting that the President doesn't love America notwithstanding, I didn't intend to question President Obama's motives or the content of his heart," Giuliani wrote last Sunday. "My intended focus really was the effect his words and his actions have on the morale of the country, and how that effect may damage his performance."

My personal opinion is that his comments were the typical mutterings of a sullen old man. Sullen, cantankerous old men don't need motivation, they just need someone to listen to them.

Bill is correct. ISIS is about money. They are gathering power and money from around the country.
