TanyaFree.com Weekly Poll

A Florida jury found Michael Dunn guilty on four of the five charges in a case in which he was accused of killing 17 year old Jordan Davis over loud music, but they could not come to a decision on the first degree murder charge and a mistrial was declared on that count.Michael Dunn, 47, shot and killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis in the parking lot of a Jacksonville Florida gas station November 23, 2012. Dunn fired 10 shots in to the Dodge Durango that Davis and three other teens were riding in. Davis was hit three times and died at the scene. Dunn faces 60 years in prison on the lesser counts. He could face a retrial on the first-degree murder case, which could bring a sentence of life in prison if he was convicted.

What’s Your Take? How do you feel about the mistrial on the first degree murder count and was justice served on the other four counts?

Another Black Boy not worthy of justice.Open season on our youth

Why is it OK to fear Black people just for being Black?

3. Henry said...

How do White People define fear? These kids were being kids in their own space and HE approached, threatened and shot into the car. Here we go with the "THUG" word again

4. Curious said...

Death was not on the table and 60 years equal life considering he is 47. Why another trial? Mission accomplished. Why must everything is about race with you people? Would you fear a carload of Black teenagers blasting music? Be honest

5. Trudy said...

I feel so sorry for his parents. This is another travesty of justice.

6. Richard said...

Why aren't these juries represented by more people of color? I am not afraid to say that many (not all) Whites fear Black male teenagers and will identify with these killers. Now George Zimmerman is a celebrity for killing a Black teenager.

7. ManChild said...

This man continued to show his racist attitudes through tweets and calls after the shooting. But this jury thinks Jordan Davis is guilty of scaring a then 45 year old man.

I am not surprised at the verdict and the fact that I am not surprised makes me angrier. I am glad that he will never be free but can no way accept the fact that his was not murder. They could have done second degree murder if they had concerns, but no verdict is a shame

The lives of the survivors are more valuable than the lives of the deceased. That's why they shoot to kill. Stand Your Ground Laws need to be repealed.

No Justice ,No Peace For Jordan Davis

I agree with most of the comments. I have a hard time understanding Curious. Dunn should be retried and convicted

Open season on what they percieperceive as thugs

We can't always disagree with the process when we Dont like the result.Justice was achieved.

14. Baye Kambui said...

A tragedy indeed. Unless the prosecution had evidence to support the notion that Dunn planned to kill Davis all along, why didn't they go for murder-2 as opposed to murder-1?

So sad...

Who orders a pizza and pours a drink after killing somebody? Who walks their dog after that?

16. Jim said...

Would be a media story if it was a Black man killing a Black child? Justice was served. There is no need to spend more tax money. Dunn only has one life

17. Jesse said...

To Jim. It should be a media story when any child is killed. The problem is the media is not concerned about Black On Black Crime. (with a few exceptions including Tanya Free)Dunn should be prosecuted to the full extent. He really does not believe he has done anything wrong.

The reason to get a conviction of 1st degree murder is to get these "bravery by gun toters" to fear prosecution for their thoughtless actions. If you see a crime call the police, this is not the time of wild west justice. A person acting irrationally whether from alcohol consumption or gun possession needs to be held accountable for their actions

Dunn may get 15 years for shooting the car and no time for killing a child.
