Out of Line?

An American University professor is facing backlash for her decision to not only bring her infant child to the first day of her “Sex, Gender Culture” class but to openly breastfeed the child  in front of the 40 or so students in attendance. Responding to criticism from students and the University, the professor has since published an essay complaining of a hostile environment.

What do you think? Was the professor out of line? How should the university respond?

Breastfeeding in public is not the issue. The issue is bringing a child to work who become fussy and a distraction to the professor and students. She should have come up with a better solution.

Out of line and out of touch with workplace expectations.

Just heard this on the radio and had to respond.I have no problem with it.We need to get past this idea that breasts are taboo. These were not elementary kids! I say it is not out of line.

I am more troubled by her thinking it was OK to bring the baby in the first place.

More hype than substance.

She needs to be fired. She obviously is not mature enough to be a college professor. Why is she playing the victim role?

I don't know how I got on your list, but am glad that I did.I have been sitting here for the past 30 minutes going through the articles and am listening to last week's show as I type. You are a hidden treasure and role model for young women. We too often leave politics for the men. You have something great here. I hope you post my comment and I look forward to listening Wednesday from Philly. I am going to spread the word and reblast your blast to my email contact list.Oh, I didn't answer the question :)This chick is way out of line.

I agree with Biz and Marie. What is the real issue? That she had the baby at work or that she breastfed? And why do women seem more intolerant than men? I don't think she was out of line.
