Police and the African American Community
The President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing released its final report after six months of work. The report told us what we all know, “People are more likely to obey the law when they believe that those who are enforcing it have the legitimate authority to tell them what to do . . . .” The public confers legitimacy only on those they believe are acting in procedurally just ways. A Cleveland police officer who climbed onto the hood of a car after a chase and fired repeatedly at its unarmed occupants in 2012 was just acquitted of manslaughter on Saturday by an Ohio judge. 5 police officers have been killed in the line of duty and 26 people have been killed by police officers in America so far THIS MONTH.

An openly gay Eagle Scott said he has been axed by the The Boy Scouts of America, one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. Brian Peffly believes it's because of his sexual orientation. He reportedly got a call and a letter from Boy Scouts of America revoking his membership. Boy Scouts of America ended its ban on gay youth last year, but continues to forbid adult leaders who are "open or avowed homosexuals or who engage in behavior that would become a distraction to the mission of the BSA."
