Baltimore

Hours after the funeral of Freddie Gray, chaos and violence erupted on the streets of Baltimore late Monday as protesters clashed with police, several of whom were injured. Numerous Baltimore City police officers were injured, multiple vehicles were vandalized and set on fire, and businesses were looted as a massive group of rioters ran. As a result, a city-wide curfew was put in place in an effort to restore order.

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake held a press conference Saturday alongside community and religious leaders and asked for peace as hundreds marched in Baltimore in honor of Freddie Gray.

But when one reporter asked to comment on how Baltimore police responded to the protestors she said she instructed officers to allow protestors to express themselves and that “we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well.”

What’s your take? Do you agree with the Mayor's approach? Do you think the Mayor’s statement may have led to unintended consequences including the violence and looting on Monday night?

The Democrats and Republicans are already gearing up for the 2016 Presidential Elections .Political party brand loyalty and the money behind those parties have made it difficult for many third party candidates to compete in the political process. What's Your Take? Guilty or Not?

An Oklahoma reserve sheriff's deputy accused of fatally shooting a man he says he meant to subdue with a Taser pleaded not guilty today to a charge of second-degree manslaughter. At the hearing, the judge granted Robert Bates permission to go to the Bahamas for a family vacation. Attorneys for the victim Eric Harris stated that the  deputy  was not certified on the .357-magnum revolver he fired, and the personal weapon was not on the Tulsa sheriff's list of approved firearms.

What’s Your Take? Should Robert Bates be found guilty  of manslaughter or  was this just an unfortunate deadly accident?

Should the government restrict purchases and activities of welfare recipients?

Lawmakers in Missouri are pushing for legislation that would ban food stamp recipients from purchasing items including steak, seafood, cookies, chips, soft drinks. A proposed Kansas bill would not allow welfare recipients to withdraw more than $25 per day in ATM cash withdrawals. The bill also prohibits welfare recipients from spending their benefits at certain types of businesses, including liquor stores, fortune tellers, swimming pools and cruise ships.

Should The Atlanta Educators Face Prison Time?

What does it mean to be a teacher? Perhaps it’s easier to define what a teacher is not… the 11 Atlanta teachers recently convicted of standardized test-cheating. Investigators said the teachers held cheating parties where incorrect answers on student tested were erased changed and corrected. All but one of 12 defendants charged with racketeering and other crimes in the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal were convicted last Wednesday. Some teachers were told to make changes to student answers on tests. The investigation revealed that educators cheated out of pride, to earn bonuses, to enhance their careers or to keep their jobs. The educators could face up to two decades in jail.

What's Your Take? Should these educators face prison time?
