What's Your Take?

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban’s comments on race last week have reignited the conversation of prejudice and bigotry in America.  Cuban asserted that “….. we're all prejudiced in one way or another. If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it's late at night, I'm walking to the other side of the street. And if on that side of the street, there's a guy that has tattoos all over his face -- white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere -- I'm walking back to the other side of the street. He went on to apologize to the family of Trayvon Martin for the reference to the “black kid in a hoodie."

Any real conversation of race relations should start with a look inward. How prejudiced are we and are we honest enough to admit it? Let’s have that conversation.

Time For A Change?

50 US Senators have reportedly signed a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell asking the league to change the name of its Washington DC Franchise. “The NFL can no longer ignore this and perpetuate the use of this name as anything but what it is: a racial slur,” according to the  letter endorsed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid . ... “We urge you and the National Football League to send the same clear message as the N.B.A. did: that racism and bigotry have no place in professional sports.”
A national poll conducted in mid-April revealed that 79 percent of respondents favored keeping the controversial nickname.

What’s Your Take? Do you find the nickname offensive? Should the NFL force a name change in DC?

A recent article revealed that In America, if a man is marrying a woman, odds are that he proposed to her. It is still more likely that the man will be the one to fall on one knee, pull a ring and propose. This week’s topics include:

  • Former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton is not even a candidate for the 2016 Presidential campaign (yet) but that has not saved her from having to revisit her husband's 1998 affair in the White House with Monica Lewinsky, her ill-fated attempt to overhaul the health care system and the deadly 2012 attack at a diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya.

What’s Your Take? Will these stories affect Hillary Clinton's presidential prospects? Do you think she will be the eventual Democratic nominee?

  • Nigeria's Army has posted two divisions to hunt for 200 schoolgirls abducted last month by Islamist rebels in an attack condemned globally .The Nigerian government has faced criticism for being slow to react to the crime. Unlike the media coverage surrounding the missing Malaysian Flight 370 and the TMZ tape of Donald Sterling, the story of these kidnapped girls took quite a while to gain mass media exposure.

What's your take? Why do you think this story took so long to get major media attention and how do rate the US response to the crisis so far?

  • Clippers owner Donald Sterling: Magic Johnson isn’t a ‘good example’ for children

After 13 hearings, 25,000 pages of documents, 50 briefings and millions of dollars in taxpayer money spent to investigate Benghazi, House Speaker John Boehner has now appointed a committee tasked with continuing investigations into the 2012 attack that killed four Americans.
