Rahsaan Roland Kirk

Rahsaan Roland Kirk was born Ronald Theodore Kirk but later transposed two letters in his first name to make Roland. Kirk later added "Rahsaan" to his name. Kirk became blind at an early age and was educated at Ohio State School for the Blind. He played saxophone and clarinet with a school band from a young age and it wasn't long beforehe was leading his own band in the Ohio area. At age sixteen, Kirk experimented with playing three instruments at once, and this later became his trademark. One of his best-known recorded performances is the lead flute and solo on Quincy Jones' "Soul Bossa Nova" a 1964 hit song repopularized in the Austin Powers films. Kirk was renowned for his onstage vitality, improvisation, and the ability to play several instruments simultaneously.

Racist?

An ongoing conversation since my January 18th post  has raised an interesting question. The term racist, according to referral sources, is a belief that a particular race is superior and equates racism with the practice and advocacy of discrimination. What do you think? Can Black people be racist?

Do people of color really have the power to discriminate and ability to be racist?

There’s an app for that?!!

In the wonderful world of technology there is an app for almost everything.  Want to steer clear of the “ghetto”? There is an app for that. An app designed to help travelers avoid unsafe neighborhoods has sparked controversy dubbed as the “avoid ghetto” app.

What do you think?  Is this app really about safety or is there something a lot more sinister behind it?
